Erró Gudmundur - Coup de vent, 151 x 99 cm, huile sur toile

The Stämpfli Foundation exhibits Erró’s work

This is the center’s first individual exhibition, presenting approximately thirty paintings and collages by the Icelandic artist

The Stämpfli Foundation – Contemporary Art will be housing the exhibition Erró. The planetary eye by the Icelandic artist residing in France, Gudmundur Gudmundsson, known as Erró. This is the first show the Stämpfli Foundation –which opened its doors to the public a year ago now– dedicates to an artist from its own collection. The exhibition is curated by Marie-Claire Uberqoui.

An internationally acknowledged painter, Erró has developed a personal language that satirizes the confusion in today’s world. The exhibit presents a selection of paintings and collages from some of his most emblematic series like The Political Paintings, Le tour du monde de Mao, Les lettres d’amour japonais and Les femmes fatales. These pieces highlight the main characteristics of his work, focusing on the manipulation of thousands of images from the mass media, comics, advertising or the history of art.

The exhibition is set in the context of the Stämpfli Foundation’s permanent collection, that includes an important nucleus of works linked to Figuration Narrative, a movement that emerged in the 60’s in response to American pop art. One of the Foundation’s three rooms brings together a selection of paintings by some of its most illustrious representatives, like Eduardo Arroyo, Jacques Monory, Peter Stämpfli and Erró himself, among others.

Erró has pieces in the permanent collections of the MoMA in New York, the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Kunstmuseum in Berne, the Nationale Galerie in Berlin or the IVAM in Valencia, among others. This is his first show in Catalonia.
