The facilities
The Foundation has a surface area of 940 m², including services and facilities, of which 684 m² are exhibition space.
In 2011, the Stämpfli-Contemporary Art Foundation opened its doors exhibiting part of its collection of works in the building of the old Fish Market of Sitges, located at Plaça de l’Ajuntament 13, the interior of which had been completely remodeled. There, two exhibition spaces were located: room 1 at the level of the main entrance from the square, and room 2 on a lower floor at the level of the iconic Carrer d’en Bosc, in the beautiful heart of the oldest Sitges.
In addition, through a well-planned internal connection on the right of the building, room 3 was arranged, on a floor of an adjacent building known as Can Mec, owned by the Foundation.
The collection is formed by 81 works donated by 65 artists of 20 different nationalities, of which 31 were born in France. All have in common having developed the most important part of their career in Paris during the 1960s and 1970s. It was friendship and the close relationship with Stämpfli that made it possible to form a unique collection in Catalonia with works by those artists and from the years of profound artistic and social renewal in the 20th century.
Between the inauguration and 2017, temporary exhibitions were held dedicated to artists with works present in the collection. In chronological order: Erró, Jacques Villeglé, Miguel Chevalier, Jacques Monory, Peter Knapp, Peter Klasen and Antoni Taulé.
In 2019 the expansion of the center was inaugurated in the building known as Can Serramalera on Carrer d’en Bosc, adjacent to the Foundation.
Maintaining the historical facades of the building, the 4 floors were preserved, where 3 rooms and a conservation and storage room were built. Room 3 of the original building serves as a connection with the new building, which contains the new rooms A, B, and C, dedicated to the 3 fundamental periods of Stämpfli’s artistic career, from the 1960s to the first decade of the 21st century.
