The Collection

The Stämpfli Foundation’s collection consists of more than 90 works by 65 artists of 22 different nationalities. In all cases, these are works donated to the Foundation –and therefore to the town of Sitges– by artists who share the common trait of having developed their careers in Paris. The core of the collection is made up of the vast majority of artists who embraced the aesthetic approaches of Narrative Figuration that emerged in 1964. Another group developed abstraction, mainly geometric, as well as kinetic and optical art. The collection also includes artists influenced by Surrealism, the ready-made, and Conceptual Art. The Foundation’s overall corpus offers a plural panorama of international contemporary art from the last 50 years, bringing together diverse trends and creative expressions.
