The ex-president of the Generalitat, Catalonia’s autonomous government, Jordi Pujol, Stämpfli visited the Foundation – Contemporary Art on March 16th on the occasion of his trip to Sitges, when he came, invited by On Magazine, to take part in an event on the thirtieth anniversary of the encounter of Catalan and Spanish intellectuals that took place at the Palau Maricel in December 1981. The ex-president visited the Foundation’s three rooms, guided by artist Pere Stämpfli and the director of the Consorci del Patrimoni de Sitges (Sitges Heritage Consortium), Vinyet Panyella. The tour was also attended by the town’s mayor, Miquel Forns; the councilor of Culture, Mireia Rossell; Foundation Heritage members Anna Maria Stämpfli and Lluís Jou, and architect Josep Maria Coll, in charge of the building’s refurbishment. The ex-president was also accompanied by his wife, Marta Ferrusola.
Jordi Pujol was very interested in the works that make up the Foundation’s collections and he praised, on the one hand, Mr. and Mrs. Stämpfli’s initiative to create the art center and establish the art collection and, on the other, the refurbishment done, respecting its surroundings. The ex-president also visited the city wall on D’en Bosch Street and wanted to find out about the Foundation´s second future enlargement phase for himself. Once the tour was over, Jordi Pujol christened the Consorci del Patrimoni de Sitges’ Book of Honor, where he wrote a few lines about the tour. Afterwards, the ex-president participated in the event that was held at the Picnic restaurant.
